Comparison

Is Apple Passwords enough?
As long as everything you own is Apple.

The Passwords app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac is free and convenient. Inlockly works just as well on Android, Windows, and Linux - and doesn't lock your passwords into a single ecosystem.

01 / At a glance

Before you decide.

Choose Inlockly if…

  • You have Android, Windows, or Linux devices at home or at work.
  • You want to share a password with someone who doesn't have an iPhone - with a secure link.
  • You need a family or team with an admin dashboard and permissions.
  • You want item change history, export, and backups under your own control.

What Inlockly doesn't have yet

  • Passkey storage.
  • Built-in system integration - you install Inlockly as an app and an extension.
  • The Free plan works on one device - all your devices are covered by the Personal plan.

02 / Key differences

What you get with Inlockly.

  • Every OS, not just Apple.

Apple Passwords doesn't work on Android or Linux, and on Windows it requires iCloud for Windows. Inlockly has apps for all of these systems.

  • Every browser.

Inlockly extensions work in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and Opera - the same way, whatever computer you're on.

  • Sharing beyond the ecosystem.

Apple's shared password groups only work with people who have Apple devices. An Inlockly link opens for anyone - including on an Android phone.

  • A family with an admin.

A separate vault for everyone, shared vaults with permissions, and an admin dashboard that helps keep things organized.

  • History and backups.

30 days of item change history and an encrypted backup file protected by a separate password.

  • Ready for work.

When passwords need to be shared across a team, Inlockly has plans for teams and businesses, with departments and activity history.

04 / Making the switch

Move your passwords from Apple in three steps.

  1. Export your passwords on a Mac.

In the Passwords app on your Mac, choose File → Export All Passwords to File and save the CSV file.

  2. Import them into Inlockly.

Open import in the Inlockly app and select the file. Your data is encrypted on your device before it reaches the cloud.

  3. Set up Inlockly for autofill.

Delete the export file. On your iPhone, choose Inlockly in Settings as your password autofill source - instead of or alongside Apple Passwords.

Import is available on every plan, including Free. Import guide ↗

05 / Good to know

Questions about switching.

Does Apple Passwords work on Android?

No. The Passwords app works on Apple devices, and on Windows through iCloud for Windows and a browser extension. If anyone in your family or team uses Android, a password manager that works on every system will be more convenient.

Is Inlockly as convenient on iPhone as Apple Passwords?

Yes. Inlockly supports iOS system autofill and unlocking with Face ID or Touch ID. In Settings, you choose Inlockly as your password source - you can keep Apple Passwords on too.

Is Apple Passwords secure?

Yes - iCloud Keychain is end-to-end encrypted. The limitation isn't security, it's reach: it works within the Apple ecosystem and has no admin dashboard, change history, or business plans.

How do I move my passwords from Apple to Inlockly?

On your Mac, in the Passwords app, export all passwords to a CSV file, then import the file in the Inlockly app. Import is available on every plan. Delete the export file when you're done.
