01 / Ways to use it

Forgot your master password? You have two options.

We don't store your password or your keys, so we can't simply reset it. Instead, we give you two safe paths.

Recovery key

You recover everything.

You have the key you saved when you signed up - in a file, on a printout, or somewhere safe.

  • You set a new master password - your private vault, family, and company data all stay.
  • You confirm it with your email and your account's second factor.
  • It works right away, with no waiting period.
  • You get a new key, and all other sessions are signed out.

On every plan, including Free.

Account reset

You start over - safely.

You don't have the key. Your account, plan, and memberships stay, but your private vault can't be recovered - nobody has the key to it.

  • Confirmation by email and your second factor, then a 7-day waiting period.
  • Daily emails with a "This wasn't me - cancel the reset" option.
  • Your private vault is deleted, and you get a new password and a new key.
  • Family and company data come back once their admin restores your access.

Admin-assisted access recovery - on the Family, Team, and Business plans.

02 / How it works

Three layers of protection.

  1. Save your recovery key.

You create it when you sign up. Download it, print it, or store it outside Inlockly - it's the only thing that can recover your private vault.

  2. Turn on a second factor.

Email codes work on every plan. On the Personal plan and up, you can add an authenticator app, a YubiKey, and 10 backup codes.

  3. Unlock with biometrics.

On your phone, use Face ID, Touch ID, or your fingerprint instead of typing your master password every time you open the vault.

03 / Capabilities

Safe ways out when you need them.

  • A recovery key on every plan.

Required at sign-up, and you can replace it in settings. Unlike many password managers, forgetting your password doesn't leave you stuck.

  • Two-step sign-in.

An email code, an authenticator app, or a YubiKey. At sign-in, the strongest method shows up by default - with the option to choose another.

  • Backup codes.

10 one-time codes in case you lose your phone or key. You get a warning when only three are left.

  • Biometrics on your phone.

Face ID, Touch ID, or your fingerprint open your vault without typing your master password (Personal plan and up).

  • Admin help - within the group.

After an account reset, a family or company admin restores access to the group's data, once they've confirmed your identity outside the app. Never to private vaults.

  • Reset attempt alerts.

Every reset request triggers an email with the option to cancel, plus a banner on your signed-in devices.

04 / Security

Nobody can recover your data for you - and that's a good thing.

With zero-knowledge, we don't have your password or your keys. Recovery relies on a secret only you have.

  • The key is checked on your device.

Your recovery key is verified locally. Only proof that you have it reaches the server - never the key itself.

  • Your company can't take over your account.

We deliberately rejected a model where a company takes over an employee's entire account. One account combines private, family, and company data - an admin only sees their part.

  • Attempt limits.

Five recovery attempts per email address, then a lockout - even for addresses that aren't registered with Inlockly.

05 / Who it's for

Peace of mind for you, order for your company.

For you and your family

A forgotten password doesn't mean lost data.

With your recovery key, you set a new password and keep your entire vault. Without it, you start over, and your family's admin restores the family data.

Inlockly for you

For teams and businesses

An employee forgot their password? Company data is safe.

The admin restores access to company folders after confirming the person's identity. The employee's private vault stays out of the company's reach.

06 / Good to know

Have questions?
Start here.

What if I forget my master password and don't have my recovery key?

You can reset your account: after confirming with your email and second factor and a 7-day waiting period, you set a new password. Your account, plan, and memberships stay, but your private vault is lost. The family or company admin restores your access to their data.

Can Inlockly reset my master password?

No. We don't know your password and don't have the keys to your vault - that's the zero-knowledge principle. That's why the recovery key is required, and it's worth keeping it outside Inlockly.

Does my company's admin have access to my private vault?

No. An admin can only restore your access to their own company's data - they can't see your private vault or data from other companies or your family.

Which two-step sign-in methods are on the Free plan?

Email codes. An authenticator app, a YubiKey, backup codes, and biometric unlock are available on the Personal plan and up.

Can I give a trusted person access to my vault?

Not in the form of another person taking over your vault. Keep the data your loved ones should have access to in a shared family vault, and your recovery key somewhere they know.
